Helpful Organizational Tips for Teachers

Teaching is a job in which organization is paramount.  Without adequate organization, your classroom can quickly fall into chaos and you risk losing valuable time.
If you are spending too much time looking for supplies, grading papers or collecting work, then you may want to find ways to improve the organization of your area in order to manage your time more efficiently. Some of the best tools for teachers to keep track of their keys are teacher lanyards.  These are worn around the neck and hold your classroom keys so you don't waste time looking for them when it comes time to leave the room for recess or lunch.
Teacher lanyards can pull double duty as ID badge lanyards too.  Since many teachers wear employee identification at work these days, ID badge lanyards are ideal tools because they hold your identification safely while also keeping it accessible.

Teacher lanyards are not only functional, but can also be quite fashionable.  Whether just for keys, or as ID badge lanyards, you can easily find designs that look more like jewelry than a lanyard.

A lanyard will keep you organized and will also top off your work attire just the way you want. It is important that the teacher's desk be maintained as a clutter free environment.

To keep track of papers, create an area of the classroom where students can turn in their work.  Create a set of bins for important papers and mark them accordingly.  For instance, you can have bins marked "To Grade", "Read and Respond", or "To Return".

Do not let papers pile up on your desk, as they can quickly overtake your work surface and reduce your classroom efficiency. Looking around your classroom, think of ways that you may be able to institute time saving techniques.  For instance, do students keep supplies in their desks?  Have most of those students lost their supplies within a month after school began?  If this is the case in your classroom, perhaps a good option is to collect items such as pens, crayons or scissors and dispense them when needed.

This way, students don't take up time by looking for lost items. Classroom organization is necessary so every student has the best possible opportunity to learn.  Through great organization, the teacher can also be freer to be creative in their teaching.  In this way, an organized classroom is more efficient and more fun for everyone involved.

Organization also comes in the form of management.  Students need to know what to expect and they must know what is expected of them in return.  A teacher will do well to explain to students what he or she will do to get their attention.  Some teachers turn off the lights; some clap their hands.  Whatever is comfortable for you will work.  If you can find a way to gain attention that is also quirky or funny, students will respond with excitement instead of apathy.

Students should learn the teacher's code for giving their attention within the first few days of school. However, if you are well into the school year and you would like to gain more control over your classroom, you can still give it your best shot.  State to your students that you are making some changes and state what those changes are.

With clear communication and great organization, you can make your classroom a positive learning environment.

The Source of Inspiration

Open your mind wide and join in the conversation with writers and thinkers and anyone who sees the world in different ways. It doesn't matter a bit whether you agree with what they're saying - the thrill of excitement comes when you fully engage with new ideas and your mind takes off into a quiet room where nothing else matters but the words on the page and the ideas and visions spark in your mind.

Let your imagination go. Be swept away and open up that pathway between the crackling energy of inspiration and your mind and soul. Revel in the joy of new knowledge. Really listen to the conversations and open.

Reading isn't only about the ideas either. Listen to the words as they ride by - feel their energy and hear their music - whatever language you have as your own, celebrate its beauty and its sound.

What you're reading and experiencing isn't simply a collection of cold words on a flat page. Those words were written with conviction, passion and energy, and what you can experience now is that same passion and energy that the writer had.

Books are powerhouses and they will challenge you to meet their power with your own.

They cause change. They can be a phenomenal source of inspiration in your life.
